Multicultural Learning Across Spring Education Group Schools

Across our network of more than 200 schools, we celebrate multicultural learning throughout the year with art shows, parades, performances, and hands-on activities. Preschoolers can make a fan to honor AAPI Heritage Month or listen to traditional music from Latin America, while middle and high school students dive deep into research about a country and culture and then present their learnings in fun and creative ways. We are proud of each one of our schools’ initiatives to broaden our students’ perspectives through multicultural learning and these highlights are just a glimpse into the intentional ways our schools bring learning to life.

Multicultural Week at Stratford Schools

In January 2025, many of our Stratford School campuses celebrated Multicultural Week, bringing the world to life through art, dance, fashion, food, and learning about diverse cultural traditions. Activities included the Multicultural Art Fair at Stratford School Milpitas Great Mall, parent presenters sharing about their culture and heritage at Stratford Schools Dublin and Sunnyvale Washington Park, and a week of stunning decorations and traditional attire at Stratford Prep.

Cultural Art Walk at Camelback Desert School

Throughout the spring, preschool and kindergarten classes at Camelback Desert School in Scottsdale, AZ prepared for the school’s 19th Annual Cultural Fair Art Walk and embarked on an exciting journey around the world, with each class exploring a different country. Countries represented included Costa Rica, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Jamaica, Mexico, Japan, Morocco, and the United States of America.

Our teachers created authentic and enriching learning experiences about their classroom’s chosen country. Parents and family members also visited the classes to lead craft activities, making this truly a community event! Students also listened to traditional music, sampled a variety of cultural foods, created meaningful art, and even learned a few words in new languages along the way.

The Cultural Fair has become my favorite event to look forward to annually and is deeply rooted in our school’s identity. Over the past 19 years, I’ve seen it blossom into a true celebration of creativity, diversity, and the power of experiential learning.

March Around the World at Merryhill School Elk Grove

Merryhill Elk Grove – Harbour Point Drive hosted “March Around the World” where classrooms transformed into different countries. Students traveled from room to room, learning about each country’s cultural traditions. They had fun making tortillas, drawing in passports, writing their names in other languages, playing instruments, and wearing cultural attire. Then the day ended with a delicious multicultural potluck!

AAPI Heritage Month Events at Merryhill School and Discovery Isle

In honor of AAPI Heritage Month, students at our Merryhill and Discovery Isle preschools learned about the rich cultures, traditions, and contributions of Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. There were hands on activities, cultural celebrations, and much more as these young learners increased their global awareness and knowledge.

Discovery Isle AAPI Month

Merryhill Elk Grove – Laguna Drive held an AAPI parade as the culmination of class studies of different Asian or Pacific Islander countries. Each class represented a different country and engaged in rich cultural exploration through music, art, and food showcasing what they learned during the parade.

The Intermediates class at Merryhill Research Park in Champaign, Illinois spent AAPI Heritage Month learning all about Vietnam. One of our Vietnamese families was kind enough to bring in a Vietnamese hat and Che Chuoi, which is a warm Vietnamese pudding-like dessert for our students to try. The students learned that different countries have different flags, and created their own Vietnamese flags, identified Vietnam on a map, and looked at images depicting the culture.

These events are a vibrant and educational celebration of the diverse cultures that make up the AAPI community.

International Festival at Sagemont Prep

Diversity is a core part of the school identity at Sagemont Preparatory School in Weston, FL–with the school even being recognized as the most diverse private school in Florida. This community proudly reflects a global tapestry of cultures, languages, and traditions and this year’s Upper Campus International Festival was a brilliant showcase of that vibrant identity.

The festival brought together students, families, faculty, and staff for an immersive journey around the world, all without leaving the school grounds. Attendees were treated to an array of captivating performances, rich cultural displays, and flavorful international cuisine that highlighted the traditions and heritage of our global community. The success of the festival was a true reflection of the collaboration, creativity, and heart within the Sagemont Prep community. Every detail–from the vibrant decor to the thoughtfully curated cultural experiences–helped transform the campus into a joyful celebration of unity and pride, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.

Cultural Diversity Day at The Rhoades School

The 3rd Annual Cultural Diversity Day at The Rhoades School in Encinitas, CA was an event to remember, beginning with a cultural performance by local Irish dancers. Next, students took part in “Breaking Bread”–sampling different breads from around the world. Bread is a staple in most cultures and takes on many different forms around the world, from tortillas to naan to homemade biscuits and much more. Breaking Bread is a way for students to come together and learn that our cultures are more alike than different.

In the afternoon, students were given a passport and acquired stamps by visiting different countries (classrooms). Each classroom featured a specialty teacher hosting an activity from a different country. This year we had activities from Pakistan, Egypt, Mexico, China, Greece, Colombia, Philippines, Japan, England, Dominican Republic, and US Native Tribes. Finally they ended the day with “K-Pop and Popsicles” and danced the afternoon away listening to K-Pop music and enjoying popsicles on the field.

From our littlest learners to oldest high schoolers, our schools truly go above and beyond to celebrate multicultural learning and create well-rounded, global learners who are ready to make an impact on their world!
